You and your GP - a health partnership

Your relationship with your general practice team is one of the most important professional bonds you and your family will build in your lifetime.

Your GP or practice nurse are the first people you'll turn to when you or your family have a health problem. Whether it's a once yearly 'warrant of fitness' or about the flu or a more serious problem, GPs are specialists in family health, trained to diagnose and manage your healthcare needs throughout your lifetime.

Building a really good relationship takes time, but it pays real dividends not just in times of illness but also in maintaining good health too.

Your practice team will become aware of your concerns and attitudes and, most importantly, your history. They'll be aware of any medication or treatment plan already in progress, and by seeing the same practice team you won't have to repeat your health history again and again.

There are things you can do to make the most of your general practice visits. Getting the right fit is important too - not every GP will fit with every patient and vice versa.
