Visiting the 24 Hour Surgery

Because we are an urgent care facility we do not enrol patients. We do encourage you to see your own doctor if at all possible.

Before you arrive:

  • You can call us first to see how busy it is and how long the wait is
  • If you have recently arrived from overseas and you have a fever, cough or other influenza symptoms please phone us before you come

When you arrive you will:

  • Check in with a nurse or receptionist and give him/her your details as well as the name of the GP team you are enrolled with
  • Be given information about our fees and how much you will pay (don’t forget your community services or other cards)
  • Probably need to wait for some time to be seen – but if you are very unwell, short of breath or have chest pain you need to tell us so we can see you immediately
  • See a doctor or nurse for treatment and you may be assessed by a nurse before being treated

After you have seen a nurse and/or doctor:

  • You will be given whatever paperwork is relevant
  • A copy of your notes will go to your usual GP
  • You will pay the bill (we do expect payment at the time of consultation)
  • You can collect a prescription or have an x-ray or blood test on site at:
    — The Urgent Pharmacy
    — Christchurch Radiology Group
    — 24 Hour Surgery
